Stein hoisting (or Masskrugstemmen) requires holding a full 1-liter stein (weighing roughly 5 lbs) with one arm, straight out and parallel to the ground. The elbow must remain locked, the thumb cannot be on top of the handle, and any spilled beer results in immediate disqualification. The person who holds their stein in the correct position the longest is the winner.
All entrants in the
Hofbräu Stein Hoisting Competition gets a Hofbräu 1-Liter Stein, filled with their Original Lager (assuming you don't spill it), to keep, and will compete against your peers to win the Rollin' on the River Championship. The winner for each gender has the opportunity to compete in the Indiana State Championship in November 2026! All proceeds from this competition will be donated to the WHAS Crusade for Children

The stein must be held by the handle only. The thumb cannot rest on top of the handle, and the pinkie finger must stay on the outside of the handle.
The arm must be extended straight, completely parallel to the ground, with no bending at the elbow.
The arm holding the stein must not touch the body, and the chest cannot be used as a shelf to support the arm.
The opposite arm must remain at the side or back, not supporting the body.
Switching hands or using two hands is forbidden.
Any amount of beer spilling or dripping off the stein results in immediate disqualification.
Minimal movement is allowed, but contestants should generally remain in place.
Includes bending the elbow, failing to keep the arm parallel, touching the stein with the second hand, or excessive arching.
